The Union Stockyards Railroad Company in Omaha, Nebraska was established as an independent line built to accommodate the Union Stockyards. It was a subsidiary of the Union Stockyards Company.
History
The Unions Stockyards Company needed a separate line to run cattle to and from the Union Pacific mainline in downtown Omaha. After establishing the Union Stockyards Railroad Company and building the line, in 1904 the Union Stockyards Railroad Company was involved in a U.S. Supreme Court case against the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad entitled "Union Stock Yards Company of Omaha v. Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad". The case addressed liability issues after a defective freight car injured a worker. "The Yale Law Journal. 45"(1) November, pp. 151-156.] In 1927 Union Stock Yards Company's rails became the South Omaha Railroad.
