- Eng Wah Organization
Eng Wah Organization was founded by Mr Goh Eng Wah. During the post-war days, it used to screen exciting Chinese blockbusters and magnificent classic epics from the giant movie sets of
Taiwan andHong Kong .It brought screens to the heartlands of
Singapore 's HDB estates and with it numerous Chinese movies to thousands of HDB dwellers in the 1970s.The organization has recently expanded after the completion of the Toa Payoh theatre to include other estates like Sembawang and Ang Mo Kio. It also successfully ventured into Singapore's largest commercial and retail complex, at Suntec City, with the operations of a 5-screen contemporary cineplex.
In 2002, it became the first cinema exhibitor in Singapore to implement an on-line loyalty program as well as provide the SMS-a-movie service. 2 years later, it became the first cinema exhibitor in the world to operate a full 2K enabled cineplex.
Singapore became the first city in Asia to host a Crazy Horse Paris cabaret when the organization signed the groundbreaking deal with Crazy Horse Paris. The cabaret opened in December 2005 in the heart of Singapore’s 24-hour entertainment precinct,
Clarke Quay .However, in January 2007, just 15 months after the opening, Eng Wah decided to close down the show citing poor attendance and mounting loses. The last show was on 4 February 2007. Ironically, this was pushed back from the original planned date of 31 January as curious locals started booking up the remaining shows after the announcement was made on 25 January.
