September 16 ,1776 under Colonel Alden in theContinental Army and was organized as seven companies of volunteers from Worcester, Middlesex, Essex, York, Cumberland, Hampshire, Lincoln, and Suffolk Counties of the colony ofMassachusetts and Mayhew's Company, 25th Continental Regiment during the spring of 1776. The regiment was assigned to the Northern Department on9 February 1777 . It was re-assigned to the Highland's Department on13 March 1777 and on12 June 1777 it was assigned to 2d Massachusetts Brigadeand three days later,15 June 1777 it was re-assigned to the 1st Massachusetts Brigade. The brigade was re-assigned to the Northern Department on1 July 1777 and the regiment was relieved from the brigade on31 March 1778 . The regiment re-organized to nine companies on25 September 1778 and re-assigned to the Northern Department on14 June 1779 . The regiment was re-assigned to the New Hampshire Brigade of the mainContinental Army on23 August 1779 . On14 November 1779 the regiment was re-assigned to the 3d Massachusetts Brigade in the Highland's Department. On1 January 1781 the regiment was re-assigned to the 1st Massachusetts Brigade. The regiment was furloughed on12 June 1783 at West Point,New York and disbanded on15 November 1783 .The regiment would see action at the
Battle of Saratoga and theSullivan Expedition .References
