Blundellsands or Blundell Sands is an area of Sefton, Merseyside, England and a Sefton council electoral ward.

Description

Blundellsands lies north to the city of Liverpool with Crosby to the east and Waterloo to the south. The area is served by Blundellsands & Crosby and Hall Road railway stations. Its shoreline, the northern part of Crosby Beach, includes parts of the popular exhibit, "Another Place", designed by the sculptor Antony Gormley. Several of the Gormley statues are accessible from the Burbo Bank car park. The area is generally considered to be very affluent with many Local celebrities, footballers, politicians, businessmen and in general Wealthy people making up the vast majority of residents calling this their home.

History

Blundellsands was named in honour of the famous Blundell family of Little Crosby, who date back to the English Reformation.

Governance

The electoral ward of Blundellsands is generally considered to be a safe Conservative stronghold with all 3 Councillors representing the area on Sefton council coming from the Conservative party.

As part of the administrative county of Lancashire, Blundellsands was part of the Great Crosby urban district which combined with other urban districts in 1927 to form the municipal borough of Crosby. On 1 April 1974, the whole of Crosby became part of the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton.
