John F. Kennedy High School is a high school located in Bellmore, New York. It is one of three high schools in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District.

The school is open during normal school months. Its newspaper is the "Cougar Crier." The school does well both in athletics and in science olympiads.Fact|date=August 2008

In local athletics, this school is referred to as Bellmore JFK to avoid confusion with the nearby Plainview JFK.

Academics

JFK offers a variety of classes at three levels: Regents/State, Advanced/Honors and AP. Honors classes are weighted by two points in a student's final average, and AP classes are weighted by five points. Examples of courses offered: Regents Biology, AP Government, Italian (to level 5), Sculpture, English 10, Sports Management, Creative Writing, Theater, and Concert Choir. Kennedy High School also offers a unique senior program, known as the Senior Experience Program. The programs runs for the final three week of classes, during which seniors may opt to participate in an internship or community service project.

Demographics

96% of students are Caucasian, as compared to the New York state average of 49%. 49% of students are male and 51% are female. Students scored somewhat higher than the state average on Regents exams.About one-third of students have completed at least one AP course during their academic career at Kennedy.

There are five other schools in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District: Wellington C. Mepham HS, Sanford H. Calhoun HS, Merrick Avenue Middle School, and Grand Avenue Middle SchoolAbout 6,050 students are enrolled at the school district, with approximately 1,200 students in each school.
