village inMońki County ,Podlaskie Voivodeship , in north-easternPoland . It is the seat of thegmina (administrative district) calledGmina Trzcianne . It lies approximately convert|11|km|mi|0 south-west ofMońki and convert|41|km|mi|0|abbr=on north-west of the regional capitalBiałystok . It is close toBiebrza National Park . The village has a population of 610.History
First records of Trzcianne come from the
13th century . The name probably comes from reeds ( _pl. trzcina) surrounding the river that flowed through the village. According to the records ofAleksander Jagiellon ,Grand Duke of Lithuania , the first Catholic church in Trzcianne was built before1496 . It survived for ca. 100 years. The current, fourth church in Trzcianne was built in1846 and consecrated in1860 .For centuries, there were also many Jews living in Trzcianne (see "
shtetl "), and there still is an old Jewish cemetery in the village. About 1,200 Jews were deported toTreblinka during theHolocaust . Both during and afterWorld War II , many inhabitants of Trzcianne were also deported toKazakhstan by theSoviets .External links
