- Six Kalimas
The Six Kalimas (or Six "Words") are recorded in various books of knowledge, and are recited (and remembered) by
Muslim s across the globe. These kalimas were compiled together for people to memorize and learn the basic fundamentals ofIslam . They are not found altogether complete in any onehadith or narration from the Islamic prophetMuhammad .Listed below are the six Kalimas.
First Kalima
Also known as the Word of Purity or the "kalima-e-tayyabah".
*Arabic text::* _ar. أشهد أن] لا إله إلاَّ الله و [أشهد أن ] محمد رسول الله ]
*Romanization::*"ArabDIN| [ʾašhadu ʾan] lā ilāha illā-llāh, wa [ʾašhadu ʾanna] muḥammadan rasūlu-llāh"
*English rendering::* [I testify that] there is no god (ilah) but Allah, and [I testify that]Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.econd Kalima
Also known as the word of testimony or the "kalima-e-shahaadat"
*Arabic text::* _ar. اشْهَدُ انْ لّآ اِلهَ اِلَّا اللّهُ وَ اَشْهَدُ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدً اعَبْدُه
*Romanization::*"ArabDIN|Ašhadu al-lā ilāha illā-llāhu, waḥdahu lā šharīka lahu, wa ašhadu anna Muḥammadun ʿabduhu wa rasūluhu."
*English rendering::*I bear witness that none is worthy of worship but Allah, the One alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and MessengerThird Kalima
Also known as the word of glorification or the "kalima-e-tamjeed"
*Arabic text::* _ar. سُبْحَان اللهِ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلّهِ وَ لآ اِلهَ اِلّا اللّهُ، وَ اللّهُ اَكْبَرُ وَلا حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّة ِ الَّا بِاللّهِ الْعَلِىّ الْعَظِيْم
*Romanization::*"ArabDIN|Subhāna-llāhi, wa-l-hamdu li-llāhi, wa lā ilāha illā-llāhu, wa-llāhu akbar. Wa lā hawla wa lā quwwata illā bi-llāhi-l-ʿaliyyi-l-ʿazīm"
*English rendering::*Glory be to Allah and Praise to Allah, and there is none worthy of worship but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. And there is no might or power except with Allah, the Exalted, the Great One. [Recorded in Sahih Al-Bukhari, Shahih Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi and others]The Second version:
La ilaha ila antha, noorai yahdi allahu linoorihi. muhammadur rasoolullahi imamul mursaleena khatamun nabiyyeen
[there is NO basis in any Sahih hadeeth for this second version]Fourth Kalima
Also know as the word of unity or the "kalima-e-tawhid"
*Arabic text::* _ar. لا الهَ اِلَّا اللّهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَرِيْكَ لَهْ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَ لَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْى وَ يُمِيْتُ وَ هُوَحَىُّ لَّا يَمُوْتُ اَبَدًا اَبَدًا ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَالْاِكْرَامِ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَهُوَ عَلى كُلِّ شَئ ٍ قَدِيْرٌ "'
*Romanization::*"ArabDIN|Lā ilāha illā-llāhu waḥdahu lā šarīka lahu lahu-l-mulku wa lahu-l-ḥamdu yuḥyi wa yumītu wa huwa ḥayyu-llā yamūtu abadan abadan, ḏū-l-jalāli wa-l-ikrām, biyadihi-l-khayr, wa huwa ʿalā kulli šayʾin qadīr."
*English rendering::*(There is) none worthy of worship except Allah. He is only One. (There are) no partners for Him. For He is the Kingdom. And for Him is the Praise. He gives life and causes death. And He is Alive. He is Eternal. Possessor of Majesty and Reverence. In His hand is the goodness. And He is the goodness. And He is on everything powerful.Second Version:la ilaha illa-anta wahid allah sanialaka muhammadur rasoolullahi imamul muttaqina rasoolu rabbil alameen. Fifth Kalima
Also known as the word of
penitence or the "kalima-e-astaghfar"
*Arabic text::* _ar. اسْتَغْفِرُ اللّهَ رَبِّىْ مِنْ كُلِّ ذَنْبٍ اَذْنَبْتُه عَمَدًا اَوْ خَطَاً سِرًّا اَوْ عَلَانِيَةً وَاَتُوْبُ اِلَيْهِ مِنْ الذَّنْبِ الَّذِىْ اَعْلَمُ وَ مِنْ الذَّنْبِ الَّذِىْ لا اَعْلَمُ اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الغُيُبِ وَ سَتَّارُ الْعُيُوْبِ و َغَفَّارُ الذُّنُوْبِ وَ لا حَوْلَ وَلا قُوَّةَ اِلَّا بِاللّهِ الْعَلِىِّ العَظِيْم'
*Romanization::*"ArabDIN|Astaġfiru-llāha rabbī min kulli ḏanbin aḏnabtuhu ʿamadan aw ẖaṭāʾan sirran aw ʿalāniyyatan wa atūbu ilayhi mina-ḏḏanbi-llaḏī aʿlamu wa mina-llaḏī lā aʿlamu innaka anta ʿallāmu-l-ġuyūbi wa sattāru-l-ʿuyūbi wa ġaffāru-ḏḏunūbi wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā bi-llāhi-l-ʿaliyyi-l-ʿaẓīm."
*English rendering::* I seek forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, from every sin I committed knowingly or unknowingly, secretly or openly, and I turn towards Him from the sin that I know and from the sin that I do not know. Certainly You, You (are) the knower of the hidden things and the Concealer (of) the mistakes and the Forgiver (of) the sins. And (there is) no power and no strength except from Allah, the Most High, the Most Greatixth Kalima
Also known as the words of rejecting disbelief or "kalima-e-rud-e-kuffer"
*Arabic text::* _ar. اَللّهُمََّ اِنّىْ اَعُوْدُ بِكَ مِنْ انْ اُشْرِكَ بِكَ شَيئًا وََّ اَنَا اَعْلَمُ بِه وَ اسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لا اَعْلَمُ بِه تُبْتُ عَنْهُ وَ تَبَرَّاْتُ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ وَ الشّرْكِ وَ الْكِذْبِ وَ الْغِيْبَةِ وَ الْبِدْعَةِ وَ النَّمِيْمَةِ وَ الْفَوَاحِشِ وَ الْبُهْتَانِ وَ الْمَعَاصِىْ كُلِّهَا وَ اَسْلَمْتُ وَ اَقُوْلُ لآ اِلهَ اِلَّا اللّهُ مُحَمَّدُ رَّسُوْلُ اللّهِ
*Romanization::*"ArabDIN|Allāhumma innī aʿūḏu bika min an ušrika bika šayʾan-wwa-anā aʿlamu bihi wa-staġfiruka limā lā aʿlamu bihi tubtu ʿanhu wa tabarrātu mina-l-kufri wa-šširki wa-l-kiḏbi wa-l-ġībati wa-l-bidʿati wa-nnamīmati wa-l-fawāḥiši wa-l-buhtāna wa-l-maʿāṣī kullihā wa aslamtu wa aqūlu lā ilāha illā-llāhu muḥammadu-rasūlu-llāh."
*English rendering::* " O Allah! I seek protection in You from that I should not join any partner with You knowingly. I seek Your forgiveness from that which I do not know. I repent from it (ignorance) I free myself from disbelief and joining partners with You and from all sins. I submit to Your will I believe and I declare: There is none worthy of worship besides Allah and with him Muhammad is his Messenger."See also
