- Arkansas Highway 101
Highway 101 is a short 7 mile long state highway in
Marion County, Arkansas . Its northern terminus isU.S. Route 62 between Cotter and Flippin. It runs south approximately 4 miles before turning east near Rea Valley. Highway 101 continues for another 3 miles then becomes Marion County Road 664 ending at the community of Old Buffalo along the White River.Another section of Highway 101 begins at U.S. 62 east of Mountain Home in Baxter County near
Lake Norfork and runs north approximately 10 miles passing through the community of Gamaliel before crossing into Missouri where the road continues as Route 101.This northern section of Highway 101 crosses Norfork Lake over the " Veterans' Bridge ". Most of the businesses located on 101 were established before the bridge's construction in the 1980's and are of the small, fishing cabin variety. The Gamaliel recreation area has become a major summer tourist destination for Missouri ' Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas residents. Although, most of the area resorts are aging, there are a few that are of modern design and construction. There are three commercial marinas offering a wide range of pleasure and fishing craft.A last note to visitors, Gamaliel rhymes with azalea.
