Richard Reid Rogers (1868Fact|date=March 2008—
November 10 1949 ) was a prominentUnited States lawyer , specializing intransit law. Married to Eunice Tomlin, their daughter Elizabeth Reid Rogers married into theGerman nobility and theHouse of Hesse by marringPrince Christian of Hesse . (Rogers was also the grandfather ofPrincess Olga de Hesse andPrincess Augusta de Hesse .)Rogers graduated in 1886 from
Princeton University before studying law at theUniversity of Virginia . He served as thegeneral counsel to both theIsthmian Canal Commission and later thePanama Railroad Company . He subsequently was counsel to theMetropolitan Street Railways and several of its successor companies.On June 20, 1906, Rogers was appointed as general counsel to the Isthmian Canal Commission, to replace outgoing Governor
