- Tofino Air
Tofino Air is a small Canadian airline offering service out of
Gabriola Island ,Sechelt , andTofino . It provides some scheduled flights, as well as chartered and scenic flights aroundVancouver Island and the Lower Mainland Coast.History
In the early 90's, the current owner of Tofino Air, and a life long resident of BC's Sunshine Coast, started a small regional airline called Midcoast Air to better assure safety and dependability for himself and his co-workers as they traveled from the logging and fishing camps on BC's west coast, to their homes on the Sunshine Coast. In 1998, Midcoast Air re-located to Sechelt.
The history of Tofino Air Lines goes back over a quarter of a century. It was originally founded to serve the villages, logging camps and fishing industry on the west coast of Vancouver Island from Tofino.
In the fall of 1999, Midcoast acquired Tofino Air Lines Ltd. and what was once just a small regional airline, was about to start its growth into an industry leading regional airline with a major presence on both Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.
In January 2001, Tofino Air expanded its reach once again with the purchase of Pacific Spirit Air based in Silva Bay on Gabriola Island in the Gulf Islands. With the purchase, Tofino Air gained another Beaver aircraft and regular scheduled service between Nanaimo, Gabriola and Vancouver.
