The Guinness Hurling Championship 1999 began in May and ended on September 12, 1999 when the All-Ireland Hurling Final was won by Cork. They beat Kilkenny by 0-13 to 0-12.

Format

The format used for the 1999 Championship was the same format that was used in previous years. The defeated Leinster and Munster champions were not eliminated from the competition, instead they went on to join the Ulster champions and Galway in two "quarter-finals". The two winners from these two games qualified for the semi-finals where they were drawn against the Leinster and Munster winners. In 1999 Clare and Offaly were the two teams to benefit from this All-Ireland Qualifier system.

All-Ireland Final

The 1999 All-Ireland final saw a return to "tradition" as the two competing teams were the Munster and Leinster champions. In recent years the finalists had been comprised of at least one team who reached the final through the qualifier system. The two teams playing were Cork and Kilkenny. The game was a scrappy one which saw both sides shoot 17 wides and featured several huge downpours. Cork were down by 4 points with little over fifteen minutes left in the game, however, they clawed back to win by a single point.
