North Royalton High School

North Royalton High School, celebrating its 103rd Anniversary (1907-2010), is a public high school located in North Royalton, Ohio, a suburban community in the Greater Cleveland area with a population of 30,444. Over 1,000 students attend North Royalton High School. It is a member of the Northeast Ohio Conference,^[1] the Lake Division. The school's colors are purple and gold and its mascot is the bear. The school's fight song is the same as the Ohio State University's fight song "Fight the Team Across the Field".

Ohio High School Athletic Association State Championships

• Boys Soccer – 1979 ^[2]

The 1979 North Royalton Bears state champion soccer team is the 1st boys’ soccer team in the history of Ohio to finish the season undefeated at 21-0-0. [1]

The 2005 North Royalton Bears baseball team made it to the elite 8, and made it to the sweet 16 in 2006.

The 2006 Varsity Lady Bears soccer team made it to state Semi finals. 16-4-2 season.

The 2007 North Royalton Bear football team went 9-2 and made the post-season for the first time in the team's history.

The 2008 Varsity Boys soccer team made it to the regional finals with an overall record of 11-4-6.

The 2009 North Royalton Bear football team went 9-2 and made the post-season for the second time in the team's history.

North Royalton High School Marching Band

• In January 2008, the North Royalton HS Marching Band traveled to New Orleans to play during the BCS National Championship Game festivities at the Louisiana Superdome. The trip had been planned long before it was determined that The Ohio State University would be fighting (albeit unsuccessfully) for the national championship.
• In April 2010 and 2011, the NRHS marching band traveled to Orlando, Florida for a week and performed in the Disney Spectacular parade.
• Under the direction of band director Marty Lydecker, the North Royalton High School Band has appeared in the OMEA state marching band finals, earning Superior Ratings, since 1989. Assisted by Christopher Burdick, and NRHS alumni David Vitale, the band has made many appearances, including The 2003 Rose Bowl Parade, the 2006 Indianapolis 500 Parade and Festival as well as the 2008 BCS Championship Football Game.
• The North Royalton High School Marching Band was selected to be in the Cleveland Indians World Series Parade, welcoming the team back to Cleveland after they participated in the 1997 World Series. The Band marched the parade route through Downtown Cleveland and was one of the few elite bands chosen for this parade.
• In September of 2004, the NRHS Marching Band performed at halftime performance at a Cleveland Browns Football Game.
• In October of 2002, North Royalton Participated in the Bands Of America Youngstown Regional, and finished in the top 12 bracket of bands, earning them a spot in the Finals Performances that evening.
• The band currently has over 270 members.
• During the 1999-2000 school year, 302 students were enrolled in the band program (does not include auxiliary). This is the largest enrollment to date. The band was called "The Marching 300" by Cleveland's Plain Dealer.
• Cleveland Magazine named the North Royalton High School Marching Band "the best marching band in the Cleveland area" in 1998.
• The North Royalton HS Marching Band has Qualified for the OMEA State Marching Band Finals every year since 1986. At the OMEA State Finals the NRHS Marching Band earned "Superior" Ratings in Class A from 1990-1994, and in Class AA From 1995-2011. North Royalton is proud to be one of the longest running bands to consistently qualify for the OMEA State Finals.
• In 2011, the band has earned a superior rating at the Revere bant contest, the Nordonia band contest and they have earned a superior rating at State finals in Dublin, Ohio. Their show was titled "Shades of Blue."

North Royalton Vocal Music Department

North Royalton High School Vocal Department has had at least one choir since its founding. The oldest performing group is the Concert Choir made up of SATB singers from different grade-levels. In the 1980s North Royalton expanded to include "Royal Harmony", a competing SATB show choir. The founding of this group was due in large part to Kim Brickman's enthusiasm. In addition to choirs, the Vocal Department at North Royalton helps to produce an annual Musical each spring.

There are currently four choirs: Freshman Choir, Concert Choir, Royaltones, and Royal Harmony.

The Dan Calabrese Center for the Performing Arts (PAC)

North Royalton High School's Performing Arts Center (PAC) (The Dan Calabrese Center for the Performing Arts) was built in the mid-1980s and has hosted a number of shows and events since. Up to this date, it has played host to the musicals Guys and Dolls, Annie, The Pajama Game, The Music Man, Grease, How to Succeed in Business..., Footloose, Little Shop of Horrors ,and West Side Story. The current musical director is Megan Dolar, assisted by Tim Anderson. No musical was performed in the spring of 2009 due to repeated failed levies. However, in 2010 the plays were resumed once more with the play Harvey

It has also been the home of the North Royalton High School Spotlighters productions of The Curse of an Aching Heart; or Trapped in a Spider's Web, Look Homeward, Angel, You Can't Take it With You, The Crucible, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Scapino, Our Town, and The Curious Savage.

The PAC has also been the home of many events such as the Royalton Rock-Off, which was a benefit concert showcasing a number of student-formed rock bands such as Burning Down Broadway and Arisen. The PAC in December 2010 hosted Albion Elementary's Once Upon a Time.

Clubs and activities

The school's Latin Club functions as a local chapter of both the Ohio Junior Classical League (OJCL)^[3] and National Junior Classical League (NJCL).^[4]
