Guerville, Seine-Maritime

Guerville is a small town and commune in the Seine-Maritime "département" of France.

It was known from Roman times for the quality of the local stone for building. Front strong point facing north, top of a hill, to control the coming river Seine communication up to Paris. It was fronting the EPP location where the Norman people were fixed by treaty.

Counts of de Guerville

One of the most famous counts of de Guerville, Henri, went to Jerusalem on crusade. On his return he was a member of the justice court.

A last inheriter of the title was under Louis XIV the head of the royal hunting "Grand Écuyer of France".

During the 16th and the 17th Century the family settled in Griselles (LOIRET) expanded and is registered with large number of children.

At the time of the French revolution, the last male heir fled to London where his wife died; he returned with two daughters. This was the end of the family name, the last one is buried in Ferrières-en-Gâtinais.
