The Washoe County School District (WCSD) is a public school district providing public education to students in Washoe County, Nevada, including the cities of Reno, Sparks, Verdi, Incline Village, and Gerlach. As of September 2006, the school district had 63,098 students enrolled.[1] It is the second largest school district in the state of Nevada.[2] The school board typically meets three times monthly: once for planning and budgeting; once for performance monitoring; and once as a regular business meeting.
The Board of Trustees appoint a superintendent who is in charge of the day-to-day operations of the school district. The current superintendent is Dr.Heath morrison who was appointed interim superintendent in July 2009 and was selected as the permanent superintendent in January 2010. The organizational structure of the district has recently changed. Currently, there are three additional superintendents in charge of specific areas (elementary education, secondary education, and operations). There are also four assistant superintendents (for human resources, high school education, student support services, and public policy, accountability, and management).
On September 14th 2011 Washoe County School District announced that, under the leadership of Dr.Heath Morrison and the Board of Trustees, the district's graduation rate had for the second consecutive year, improved by 7% Bringing the districts graduation rate up 14% in just two years.
