input="The Goonies" (or just "Goonies") is a 1986
video game byKonami that shares its name with another completely different gameThe Goonies (MSX) . This article is about the Nintendo Famicom game based on the hit motion picture, "The Goonies ". It was released only inJapan on the Family Computer and never released outside of Japan on consoles. However, it made it to some American arcades as "Vs. The Goonies" of theNintendo Vs. Series and as a selection on the PlayChoice-10. The game was later re-released for theFamicom Disk System on April 8,1988 .The main theme of the majority of the game levels was a simplified version of
Cyndi Lauper 's #10 Billboard hit, "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough ".The game had a sequel released in 1987 called, "
The Goonies II ". The sequel, unlike its predecessor, was released outside of Japan for the NES.Although it was unreleased in the U.S., it remains a popular game for NES collectors.
Gameplay
The player controls Mikey. An army of rats patrol the stages frequently. Jake Fratelli makes an appearance and attempts to attack Mikey by shooting at him. When Mikey kills a mouse, it leaves behind a small blue bomb which, if not collected, will eventually disappear. The defeated enemies will respawn not long after defeating one and collecting the bomb it drops. The bomb is used to blow up skull doors in where the keys and a member of the Goonies are locked in. After collecting all 3 keys, Mikey can advance to the next level. The game does bear similarities to the film as the final stage is a pirate ship. The game also recreates one scene from the film where the Goonies are on a beach watching the ship sail away. All five goonies are required to access the game's final level, otherwise, the game will start from the first level.
