WFXS (Fox 55) is a television station licensed to Wittenberg, Wisconsin. The station serves as the Fox affiliate for north central Wisconsin, including the cities of Wausau, Stevens Point, Rhinelander, and Marshfield. The station maintains their studio facilities in downtown Wausau, while the station's transmitter is located northwest of the city at the intersection of Highway 52 and Marathon CTH J.

The station is the home of the only 9pm newscast in the market, which is anchored by Jenna Bennet. The station launched a new website based on the MyFox template in early December 2007.

Previously before WFXS came to the air in 1999, Fox programming was seen in the area via cable from the Green Bay stations that carried the network, and via a secondary affiliation with WAOW (Channel 9), who also carried the NFL on Fox package from the launch of Fox Sports in 1994 until Channel 55 took Fox affiliation.

Digital television

Because WFXS was granted an original construction permit after the FCC finalized the DTV allotment plan on April 21, 1997 [ [http://www.transmitter.com/FCC97115/chanplan.html Final DTV Channel Plan from FCC97-115 ] ] , the station did not receive a companion channel for a digital television station. The FCC allocated channel 50 to WFXS for digital service, though the station is attempting to launch instead on channel 31 and has not turned on a terrestrial digital signal currently [ [http://www.myfoxwausau.com/myfox/pages/InsideFox/Detail?contentId=5448673&version=2&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=5.1.1 MyFox Wausau | FOX55 HD Questions? ] ] . On or before February 17, 2009, which is the end of the digital TV conversion period for full-service stations, WFXS will be required to turn off its analog signal and turn on its digital signal (called a "flash-cut").

The station however had a direct fiber optic line ran from their studios to the headend of the local Charter Communications offices, and on January 11, 2008, the cable provider launched WFXS' high definition/digital signal over their Channel 785 [ [http://www.myfoxwausau.com/myfox/pages/InsideFox/Detail?contentId=5448673&version=2&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=5.1.1 MyFox Wausau | FOX55 HD Questions? ] ] .
