At time of construction it was very modern and strong fortress. During 16th century importance of the castle diminished resulting in its abandonment.

In modern times, it became a target for tourists and a place of meetings and festivals. During the last century, the castle's structure has deteriorated significantly. Attempts are being made to stabilize it.
