Pretty Mouth and Green My Eyes

Pretty Mouth and Green My Eyes

"Pretty Mouth and Green My Eyes" is a short story written by J. D. Salinger for "The New Yorker", collected in his "Nine Stories". It details a phone conversation between two lawyers, in which one is distracted from his own romantic evening to hear about his friend's irksome wife. It is said to be a modern retelling of the King Arthur story.

The line "rose my color is and white, pretty mouth and green my eyes" was quoted by acclaimed indie rock and lo-fi artist P.J. Harvey in her song "Angelene" from the album "Is This Desire?"
