Rochester (town), Wisconsin

Rochester is a town in Racine County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,254 at the 2000 census. The Village of Rochester is located within the town.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 2,254 people, 782 households, and 634 families residing in the town. The population density was 131.9 people per square mile (51.0/km²). There were 810 housing units at an average density of 47.4/sq mi (18.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.18% White, 0.31% Black or African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 0.44% from two or more races. 2.31% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 782 households out of which 40.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 73.3% were married couples living together, 5.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.9% were non-families. 13.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.88 and the average family size was 3.19.

In the town the population was spread out with 28.5% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 26.6% from 45 to 64, and 8.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 101.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.9 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $61,111, and the median income for a family was $68,523. Males had a median income of $50,019 versus $31,146 for females. The per capita income for the town was $25,097. About 3.3% of families and 4.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.3% of those under age 18 and 9.1% of those age 65 or over.
