Steve Fraser was the
1984 Olympic Gold Medalist inGreco-Roman wrestling in the 198 lb weight class. A native ofHazel Park, Michigan , Fraser was a Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) state wrestling champion and later an All-American in wrestling at theUniversity of Michigan . Fraser's gold medal was the first Olympic medal in Greco-Roman wrestling followed the next night byJeff Blatnick who won a second gold medal for theUnited States Olympic team. Fraser has served as coach of the US Greco Roman team since 1997. 2000 Olympic Gold medalistRulon Gardner credits Fraser's instruction as a large part of his wrestling success. The year Fraser competed the USA won 9 Gold Medals in wrestling, the largest in a single Olympics since 1896.In 2008, Fraser was elected to the
