Jonathan Smith (games programmer)

Jonathan 'Joffa' Smith is a British games programmer, most famous for his titles for the ZX Spectrum. His games [cite web | url = http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekpub.cgi?regexp=^Jonathan+Smith+%5b1%5d$ | title = Sinclair Infoseek: Jonathan Smith [1] | accessdate = 2006-08-12 | last = van der Heide | first = Martijn | work = World of Spectrum] were notable for containing a large number of sprites and parallax scrolling, features which were largely unknown on the Spectrum at the timeFact|date=April 2007. His most famous games include "Cobra" [cite journal | year = 1986 | month = December | title = "Cobra" | journal = CRASH | issue = 35 | pages = 140–141 | url = http://www.crashonline.org.uk/35/cobra.htm | accessdate = 2006-08-12] , (which was a license extremely loosely based on a Sylvester Stallone film) one of the first Spectrum games to exhibit full-colour parallax scrolling and his critically acclaimed conversion of the arcade game "Green Beret" [cite journal | last = Smith | first = Rachael | year = 1986 | month = June | title = "Green Beret" | journal = Your Sinclair | issue = 6 | pages = 30 | url = http://www.ysrnry.co.uk/articles/greenberet.htm | accessdate = 2006-08-12] . A notable "trademark" of Smith's was his habit of writing his name (with "Jonathan" and "Smith" spelled various ways) as a mirror-image in his games.
