Karimnagar district ( _te. కరీంనగర్ జిల్లాలు) is in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh, Southern India. Karimnagar is the district capital.

Geography

The district covers an area of 11,823 km². It is bounded on the north by Adilabad District, on the northeast by Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh states, on the south by Warangal District, on the southwest by Medak District, and on the west by Nizamabad District. The largest town in the district is the industrial town of Ramagundam (236,000). Towns like Siricilla (derived from Siri Shala, a community of weavers) and Manthani are in Karimnagar district.

Administration

Mr Sandeep sulthaniya is the present collector of Karimnagar.

History

Karimnagar derives its name from Syed Karimullah Shah Saheb Quiladar, and was a centre for Vedic learning.
