* 1851 – Pennsylvania Railroad opens sections of its line from Lockport, Pennsylvania, to Beatty (west of Latrobe) and from Pittsburgh to Brinton.
* 1908 – The Grand Trunk Pacific Railroad's 2,775 ft (846 m) long Battle River bridge, standing 195 ft (60 m) above the river, is completed.
