Amir Ali Ghassemi

Amirali Ghasemi (امیرعلی قاسمی in Persian), born on 20 August 1980 in Tehran, Iran is an Iranian artist. His focus area is mainly graphic design, photography and digital art. Amirali Ghasemi is also a well known curator of Iranian new generation artists, showing their works through various programs such as "Deep Depression" & "Deeper Depression".

Early life

He grew up in a family where his grandparents were publishing a magazine entitled "Arash" in the 80s which covered arts, literature and cultural affairs.

After high-school he started experimenting with photography and illustration, and later in 1998 he entered the Art faculty of Azad University in Tehran. While studying toward a bachelor degree in graphic design, he became interested in wide range of artistic possibilities offered by multi-media techniques.

Entering the world of art

He won the 2nd prize for web design and multimedia at the 7th Biennale of Iranian Graphic Designers, which was followed by his participation in many graphic competitions and exhibitions in Iran, France, Germany, South Korea, and Japan.

In addition, he has directed many audiovisual projects with Iranian rock bands, such as Meera, D.N.A, and 127. Also, because of his blogging experience, he was selected to contribute to the "International Art Blog Project" by The Centre of Attention in London.

He graduated in 2004 with a BA in graphic design, with a research thesis emphasized on the history of digital art.

Parkingallery

In 1998, he established Parkingallery, an independent art gallery and studio in Tehran. Following that, in 2002, Parkingallery.com, a virtual gallery, which has become an online platform for many young Iranian artists has been launched.

Current

He is currently working as Art director/curator of parkingallery - an independent art space in Tehran - and also as a freelance photographer for various artistic and cultural magazines, and is busy with his video installations and interactive projects, and writing about the Tehran arts scene and contemporary Iranian art in his web-log.
