Thomas Potter (Universalist)

Thomas Potter was an illiterate farmer who built a chapel in Lacey Township, New Jersey. Influenced by both Quakerism and the Baptist Church, Potter let people of all creeds worship on his land. Eventually, a preacher named John Murray took up residence in the chapel. Both are generally recognized as contributors to the founding of the Universalist Church in America.
