Greenville, South Carolina . Along with "The State" in Columbia and Charleston's "Post and Courier ", it is one of the three largest papers in the Palmetto State.History
The Greenville News started off as a four page publication in
1874 . For a one year subscription it was eight dollars. After five different owners and many editors, the Peace family bought the paper in 1927; around the same time that Greenville was becoming known as “The Textile Center of the South.” Shortly thereafter, The Piedmont, a small afternoon paper, began printing. Then In 1995, the smaller afternoon paper and the larger morning paper merged to become The News-Piedmont. Later that same year, Gannett purchased the newspaper and became the new owner, changing the name to The Greenville News. Today The Greenville News prints over 100,000 newspapers a day.Publications
Besides The Greenville News itself, the company also publishes a newspaper/magazine called Link. It features local entertainment, news, photos, reviews and more. It is a free publication and is available at more than 1,100 locations in Anderson, Greenville, Pickens and Spartanburg counties.
