Kings Park High School

Kings Park High School is a four year secondary school located in Kings Park, New York. It functions as the only high school for Kings Park Central School District which serves the communities of Kings Park (KP, San Remo, and Park View) and Fort Salonga, . KPHS over went through construction from 2005-2007, remodeling the whole lobby and cafeteria. The picture seen on the right does not look anything like the school anymore.

Starting in 2009, the school principal is Dr. Raymond G. Cooper.

Bond project

In 2003, Kings Park Central School District administration proposed a $26 million bond project for renovating the high school. Proposed areas for renovation included the junior cafeteria, the roof, the lobby, office areas, and a new hallway and additional classrooms on the west side of the school. Approved by a referendum on February 3, 2004, the renovation was scheduled to occur during the 2005-06 school year and the following summer, and is currently finished. Completion of the bond project allowed the high school to accommodate its increasing student population and represented a significant upgrade for the school's physical plant.

Significant Events

May 4, 2006 - A private training helicopter made a crash landing in the field less than 20 feet from the side of the school building. The bottom skids clipped a fence which caused the helicopter to roll. The two people in the helicopter were injured in the crash. No students were injured. September 23, 2008 - A small electrical fire takes place in the basement beneath the custodial office a few minutes after school let out. Nobody is injured.

Notable alumni of Kings Park High School include:

* John Petrucci, John Myung, and Kevin Moore, members of influential metal band Dream Theater.
* John Flynn, of the Detroit Tigers baseball team.
