Mount Selinda (Location - longitude 32.7030615010; latitude -20.4238900000) is a village and mission station in the province of Manicaland, Zimbabwe located close to the Mozambique border some 30 km south east of Chipinge. Tea and coffee are grown in the mountainous area around the village. The mission station was established in 1892 by the East Central Africa Mission. In 1919, Emory Alvord, arrived at the mission and taught western farming methods to the local population. He also established the Nyanyadzi irrigation scheme.
The Mission Station comprises a school, sub A to Standard 6, (tertial education) for teachers, nurses, and farm extension workers, a hospital,a sawmill, a farm and a community centre (church and store).The church was established and staffed by the American Board Mission [now The United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe- UCCZ]http://www.uccz.org/ and it had satellite churches at Beacon Hill, Emerald Hill and Mzite. The Mount Selinda Institute was a sister institution to the Chikore Mission (Location - longitude 32.49777984620; latitude -20.43694000000) (app. 40km north west of Mt Selinda)
The Institute has historical monuments like the 'catapilla' earth mover known by the locals as 'Gandapasi', the brick molding machine and the first brick and tile building in Melseter district of Manicaland.
The United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe (UCCZ) facilitated the establishment of Nyanyadzi irrigation scheme.
Currently the Mission station has a boarding school, Mt Selind High school, which and has a hospital not far from the school. The boarding school accommodates both boys and girls.
. The Mission Hospital also does training of primary care nurses.
The Mission Station in the eastern side of [Chirinda](http://www.worldwildlife.org/wildworld/profiles/terrestrial/at/at1006_full.html) Forest which also neighbours the Ngungunyana forest to the north west.
