"In the Sign of Evil" is a 1984 EP by Sodom.

It is generally acceptedFact|date=June 2008 that this EP, as well as Bathory, Venom, Hellhammer, and Mercyful Fate were black metal's first starts in the studio.

In 2007, Tom Angelripper returned to the studio along with Josef "Peppi" Dominic (Grave Violator) and Christian Dudeck (Witchunter) to re-record the EP, including several extra tracks which were discarded and forgotten. The release is called "The Final Sign of Evil".

The EP is widely available as the bonus tracks in the compact disc version of their debut album "Obsessed by Cruelty" (1986).

Despite the melodical rawness, the over-the-top and naive lyrics ("My life begins at midnight twelve, masturbate to kill myself") and the elementary structure of the songs two of them (Outbreak of Evil and Blasphemer) are still regularly played by the band, 25 years in its career, and are considered crowd favorites.
