"Trick Me" is an R&Bska song written and produced by American songwriter-producer Dallas Austin—well-known for writing and producing hits for artists such as TLC and Janet Jackson—for singer Kelis' third studio album, "Tasty" (2003).

The song was released as the album's second single in May 2004. It was released in most countries around the world. The U.S. label for Kelis, Arista, folded right after releasing the hit single "Milkshake", so Kelis' album "Tasty" remained stagnant and its promotion halted. However, the European label for the singer, Virgin Records, decided to shoot a video for the ska-tinged "Trick Me"—to be directed by Little X. "Trick Me" became Kelis' biggest hit—right under "Milkshake"—in Europe.

The single sold 947,000 copies in the United Kingdom and 140,000 copies in Australia (double platinum).

Reverend and the Makers chose to cover this song when they guested on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge on May 30, 2007.

Chart performance

"Trick Me" was released as the second single in Europe and everywhere else outside the U.S.; it did not chart in the U.S. because its music video was not released there, although it did manage to chart on the U.S. Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles at number seven. In the UK "Trick Me" earned Kelis her second and second consecutive top five hit when it debuted at number two. However it was only able to hold the number-two position for a week, compared to "Milkshake" which had spent four weeks at number two; none the less it sold 147,000 copies. In countries such as Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, it outpeaked "Milkshake". It reached number two in the Netherlands, and is so far her highest-charting single there.

"Trick Me" has become Kelis' most successful single in Germany, France, and Switzerland. Overall "Trick Me" performed the best in European countries, reaching the top ten and twenty in most European countries. In addition to its success in Europe "Trick Me" peaked at number four for four weeks in Australia, becoming Kelis' second top five single, and also went platinum, following "Milkshake" which was certified platinum in 2003. In New Zealand, "Trick Me" also peaked at number three tying it with "Milkshake" as Kelis' highest-peaking single there; in comparison "Trick Me" spent two weeks more than its predecessor on the chart.

"Trick Me" also became Kelis' second top ten single on the United World Chart when it peaked at number seven, but did not match the commercial success of "Milkshake". However in the countdown for 2004 of the United World Chart, "Trick Me" was placed higher than its predecessor. "Trick Me" ranked number twenty-seven with 2,894,000 points while "Milkshake" ranked number thirty-five with 2,603,000 points. To date, "Trick Me" has become Kelis' second biggest hit, after "Milkshake".
