Situated about 7km south of
Mullinavat and 8 km north fromWaterford City , Kilmacow consists of an Upper and Lower Village approximately 1 km apart. The population of each of the villages is just under 700, while that of the Kilmacow area as a whole totals over 2,000.Pubs in Kilmacow include The Den, The Thatch, Irishes, Cookes (currently closed), and Carrol's (Seanti) & Kearn's.

primary school s: a mixed school at Strangsmills, a boys' school in Dangan, and a girls' school in the Upper Village.Sport
Kilmacow has a hurling team which competes in the Junior Hurling Championship. However, they have failed to win the championship since 1956.
