British Columbia ,Canada . About 40 km in length, and no more than about 2 km wide, the lake is primarily significant as the ultimate source of theMackenzie River .Fact|date=July 2008 Thelake empties into theFinlay River , which joins the Peace River atWilliston Lake . The area is remote, although severalmining operations have occurred around the lake. The first European to explore the lake and its surrounding area wasSamuel Black in 1824.
