Battle of Hundsfeld

Battle of Hundsfeld

The Battle of Hundsfeld or Battle of Psie Pole was allegedly fought in 1109 between the Holy Roman Empire in aid of Zbigniew of Poland against his stepbrother, Bolesław III Wrymouth, Duke of Poland. The Imperial forces were led by Emperor Henry V, while the Polish forces were led by Bolesław. The result was a Polish victory.

Because of the many corpses left by the battle, the later Polish chronicler Wincenty Kadłubek remarked that the "dogs which, devouring so many corpses [of the fallen] , fell into a mad ferocity, so that no one dared venture there." The battlefield became known as "dogs' field" ( _de. Hundsfeld, _pl. Psie Pole). The territory is now part of the Psie Pole district of Wrocław, Poland.
