The first class to graduate was the Class of 2002. The facility covers convert|240000|sqft|m2 and contains all core facilities. The school is located on an 80 acre tract on Grovers Mill Road in Plainsboro, across from the West Windsor-Plainsboro Community Middle School and the Millstone River Upper Elementary School.
The Northern knight have a heated rivalry with the ww-p south Pirates. The Pirates do beat them in most sports although they put up a decent fight. The knights are second rate to the Pirates and also they lose in almost every social contest, lets face it knights are a losing force when it comes to the undefeated pirates of south.
The mascot of the school is the Northern Knight as voted on by the original two graduating classes, the classes of 2002 and 2003. The school colors are Royal Blue and Silver.

The West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North Knights participate in the
Colonial Valley Conference , which includes high schools from Mercer, Middlesex and Monmouth Counties. The high school has a fierce rivalry with its counterpart school,West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South that began when the two high schools began operating independently of each other in 2000.In 2007, the boys soccer team won the Central Jersey Group III state championship with a 3-0 win over

In the 2006-2007 academic year, the boys lacrosse team returned to the state tournament for the first time since Matt Lalli graduated.
In 2008, The boys tennis team had their best season in the school's history making it to the semi-finals of the state tournament and coming in 4th in the Mercer County tournament.
In 2007, the varsity cheerleading squad received second place in their cheer competition.
In 2008, the girls épée fencing squad won the New Jersey Division II districts tournament.
