Stevens Creek (California)

Stevens Creek is a creek in Santa Clara County, California. The creek flows from the Santa Cruz Mountains through Stevens Creek County Park into Stevens Creek Reservoir. It continues through Cupertino, Los Altos, and Mountain View before emptying into the San Francisco Bay.

The creek was originally named "Arroyo San José de Cupertino" (Spanish for "Saint Joseph of Cupertino Creek") by Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza, who camped along the creek on March 25, 1776. Its name was later changed to "Stevens Creek" after Elijah Stephens, a blacksmith and trapper who was born in South Carolina. He moved to Cupertino in 1848.
