He was originally drafted into the
Western Hockey League by theCalgary Hitmen in the 3rd round, 54th overall in the 2000 WHL Bantam Draft. After two seasons with the Hitmen, Getzlaf was drafted into theNHL by theAnaheim Ducks in the 1st round, 19th overall, in the2003 NHL Entry Draft . After being drafted, Getzlaf returned to the Hitmen and played two more seasons with the team.Professional
Getzlaf made his NHL debut with the Ducks during the
2005-06 NHL season , appearing in 57 games and scoring 39 points. Getzlaf made it to Western Conference Finals in his first year in the NHL with the Ducks, but they were elimated in 5 games by theEdmonton Oilers .The next season, Getzlaf played all 82 regular season games and scored 58 points while also appearing in all of the Ducks games during the
2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs . Getzlaf helped the Ducks to defeat theOttawa Senators in the Stanley Cup Final to win his firstStanley Cup Championship.
