Keyframe - the Animation Resource

Keyframe is an online database of animated films, cartoons, direct-to-video, animated shorts, and holiday specials. The database covers everything from the most mainstream Disney movie to cult anime gems. Profiles include one or more images, a plot synopsis, and production credits such as voice actors, directors, producers, writers, composers and animators. Users also have the option of setting up a free account to participate in the forum or post their own reviews about the best/worst in the world of animation.

History

Keyframe started out as a simple HTML site containing around 60 profiles. This site was launched on February 11th, 1999 and focused only on animated films. It was hosted on webspace at Simon Fraser University, where the site's founder was completing a Bachelor's at the time. By mid-2000, the site began to expand into a wider range of animation. Early in 2001, the site finally got its own domain name of keyframeonline.com. By 2003, the site had become too large to manage as an HTML site and, at last, became a proper database entity. Presently the site is powered through a hybrid system of a vBulletin forum/user system and a custom-built PHP/MySQL database.
