Burwood, Victoria ,Australia . The facility was designed to accommodate children from infancy to age 14.The institutions had run by the Presbyterian Church under the name "Kildonan" but the Social Welfare Department purchased the institution and managed it under the Family Welfare Division. (The Social Welfare Department had responsibility for young people under two separate divisions; the Youth Welfare Division (14-18 years olds and offenders) and the Family Welfare Division 0-14 year olds)
Allambie accommodated children of both sexes. Prior to its opening, children had been housed at
Turana Youth Training Centre in Parkville. The move to Allambie meant that young children of both sexes could be accommodated together.Deakin University Burwood Campus is now situated on the old Allambie site.Allambie was situated opposite "Orana " Children's Home which was a private children's Home run along a "cottage system" and owned by the
