Stoke Golding is a village and
civil parish in theHinckley and Bosworth district ofLeicestershire ,England , about three miles north-west ofHinckley . According to the 2001 census it had a population of 1,704. It has an impressive Saxon church roughly in the centre of the village, which is a good example of the churches of that period.Stoke Golding claims to be the "Birthplace of the Tudor Dynasty". On
1485-08-22 , afterHenry Tudor had defeated Richard III at thebattle of Bosworth , which took place in the healthy marshland known as the Redemore between Stoke, Dadlington, Shenton, and Sutton Cheney, Henry's entourage repaired to hilly ground near the village of Stoke Golding. Here an impromptu coronation of King Henry VII was performed with a circlet by tradition retrieved from a nearby thornbush. This became known as Crown Hill, Crownhill Field being named in written records from the 17th century.It is bordered on one side by the
