Omnipresence |Infinity is a
fictional character that appears incomic books published byMarvel Universe . Infinity is first glimpsed (partially) in "Thor" #185 (Feb 1971) and is fully seen in Quasar #24 (Jul. 1991). The character was created by scripter-editorStan Lee and artistJohn Buscema and expanded on byMark Gruenwald andGreg Capullo .Fictional character biography
Infinity is one of the five essential entities within the
Marvel Universe alongside Eternity, Death, Oblivion, andGalactus . While these beings regard each other as siblings, they are not family in any conventional sense. Infinity is the personification of space, and together with Eternity they represent all life and existence in the universe - while their counterparts Death and Oblivion represent death and non-existence.Infinity is rarely seen by humanoid beings. The entity was first glimpsed by the Asgardian gods Odin and Thor as an astronomical manifestation extinguishing stars in the Asgardian dimension. Odin investigates, but becomes mentally unhinged while contemplating its power. Thor uses the combined power of Asgard to stop Infinity's manifestation. ["Thor" #184 - 188 (Jan. - May 1971)]
Infinity is not seen again until it — together with Eternity and the other cosmic beings — battle the Titan
Thanos when he has possession of theInfinity Gems . ["Infinity Gauntlet" #4 - 6 (Oct. - Dec. 1991)] Infinity later contacts the astral form of the hero Quasar, empowering him as heravatar against the being Maelstrom's machinations as the avatar of the concept Oblivion. ["Quasar" #24 (Jul. 1991)] Infinity and Oblivion struggle metaphysically through their avatars to restore the equilibrium of the forces of the universe. Quasar defeats Maelstrom and ends the feud, allowing Infinity to prevail. ["Quasar" #25 (Aug. 1991)] Quasar later approaches Infinity in his quest for Eternity in the Dimension of Manifestations, but is ignored. ["Quasar" #37 (Aug. 1991)]Infinity, in a composite manifestation with Eternity, later appears to the Magus in order to assist
Adam Warlock in stopping the Magus from altering the universe. ["Infinity War" #6 (Nov. 1993)]Powers and abilities
As a cosmic concept, Infinity possesses the ability to manipulate the universe, and also exists everywhere simultaneously. Being an
abstract entity , Infinity has no physical body, but can warp surrounding space and matter into the manifestation of a humanoid form that can be perceived by lesser beings.Other Media
Infinity appears with Eternity in the
Fox Kids animated series The Silver Surfer (1998).References
