Gordie Howe Bowl

Gordie Howe Bowl is a football stadium located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. It was opened September 30, 1960. It is the home of the Saskatoon Hilltops, who play in the Prairie Football Conference of the Canadian Junior Football League and is also used for high school football. It is located on the southwest corner of the city. The city considered closing the stadium in 2006 due to maintenance costs.

Expansion

The Gordie Howe Bowl is expected to receive C$30 M in expansion. This expansion will include artificial turf, an additional eight lane track complete with a throws and jump area. Bleacher seating should be expanded to 6,500. Athletic facilities including public washrooms, changerooms and concession, and fencing are to be constructed in the initial C$12.4 M venture being undertaken in 2009. This allotment will be contributed by the federal government (C$4.1M), city of Saskatoon (C$2.9 M), corporate sponsors (C$1.4 M) and admission levy (C$4 M).

The first phase is expected to help fund operating costs and further turf replacements. This second phase is expected to cost C$12.8 M and provide new bleachers, brand new press box, additional washrooms, conessions, meeting rooms, landscaping, and an entry plaza. Phase 3 of the project pegged at C4.8 M would provide a paved parking lot and private boxes and more landscaping. The bowl improvements will enable hosting of soccer and track and field teams. The south Circle Drive Bridge is expected to be completed in 2012, which provide easier access to Gordie Howe bowl from all areas o the city. [Citation
