Robert "Bobby" Bloom (1946 –
February 28 ,1974 ) was an Americansinger-songwriter . He is known best for being aone-hit wonder with the 1970song "Montego Bay," which was co-written and produced byJeff Barry . Bloom was killed onFebruary 28 ,1974 , at the age of only 28 after charging into a room in a fight over a girl and was accidentally shot in a scuffle with a man who was never identified. Producer Jeff Barry was surprised to find out afterward that he was the sole beneficiary of Bloom's life insurance policy.
