July 13 1946 , in Uniontown, Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania ) is a retired Americanbasketball player and the currenttelevision commentator for theLos Angeles Lakers of theNational Basketball Association (NBA). He has been the Lakers' color commentator since 1987, sharing the mic with the legendaryChick Hearn and winning numerous awards for his work along the way. The Southern California Sports Broadcasters Association has named Lantz best radio commentator in six of the last seven years. Lantz played in theAmerican Basketball Association and in the NBA from 1968 until 1976. He was drafted by the San Diego Rockets in the third round (1st pick) of the1968 NBA Draft after attending theUniversity of Nebraska .
