- WorldFish Center
The WorldFish Center (originally International Center for Living Aquatic Resources Management or ICLARM) is an international research center specializing in fisheries and related aquatic resources. Its mission is to reduce poverty and hunger by improving fisheries and aquaculture and improving livelihoods of the 200 million employed in fishing and related activities worldwide.
ICLARM started as a program of the
University of Hawaii in1975 , supported by theRockefeller Foundation , and it was incorporated in thePhilippines in1977 . It is one of the 15 specialized research centers of theConsultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). The name was changed to the WorldFish Center in order to illustrate a greater development orientation to supporting research, development projects and capacity-building related to fisheries and aquaculture more generally.Its headquarters is in
Penang ,Malaysia and it has offices or research centers inBangladesh ,Cambodia ,Cameroon ,Egypt ,Malawi ,New Caledonia , thePhilippines and theSolomon Islands .The center is a key sponsor of
