George Thomas (baseball)

George Thomas (baseball)

George Edward Thomas, Jr. (born November 29, 1937, in Minneapolis, Minnesota) was a Major League Baseball outfielder. His Major League career lasted from by|1957 to by|1971; he compiled a career batting average of .255. After playing for the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Angels, he was traded to the Boston Red Sox for Bill Monbouquette in 1965. The trade was not particularly fruitful for either team: Monbouquette had one losing season with Detroit before being traded to the New York Yankees, while Thomas never played a full season as a starter with the Red Sox, and batted .237 his first year in 1966, his first year in Boston.
