Student Radio Awards

Student Radio Awards

The Student Radio Awards is a UK awards scheme celebrating talent within the UK student radio industry, held annually since 1996 by the Student Radio Association and supported by BBC Radio 1.

Many past winners of Student Radio Awards have gone on to become big names within the UK radio industry, most notably of late is Greg James (DJ), (Winner Best Male 2005), who now works at Radio 1, and Philippa TJ, who now works at 6 Music.

The awards themselves are announced in an awards ceremony typically taking place in London in November. The awards are run by the Student Radio Association, in collaboration with various third parties, mainly by Radio 1.

Awards Chair Person

The Current Awards Chairperson is Jo Whiley
Prior to that from inception to the 10th Awards was Steve Lamacq

Awards Judging

The Annual Awards Judging is done in two rounds, coordinated by the Association of Student Radio Alumni on behalf of The Student Radio Association. First round judging is exclusively carried out by ASRA Members.
The top 5 to 7 (category dependent) nominees then go through to the main Judging carried out by A Judging Panel of industry Professionals.
This results in the Top Three (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) for each category being chosen - previous winners are detailed below.
