UK Student Radio Association

UK Student Radio Association

The UK Student Radio Association (SRA) is a representative body which supports and acts on behalf of the UK student radio community. It is a not-for-profit organisation which exists to encourage and facilitate communication between student stations, to assist in their development, and to offer support and advice to new stations just setting up. The SRA receives support from the Radio Academy.

The Student Radio Association organises national events such as the annual spring conference (where the AGM is held), a smaller summer conference, and the Student Radio Awards, which to date has been supported by BBC Radio 1.

The predecessor of the Association, NASB (National Association of Student Broadcasting), went into voluntary liquidation in January 2002 [ [http://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk/73af62ee88869d1e75fddd315e0cbbcc/compdetails| Companies House Liquidation Record] ] .

The inaugural General Meeting of the SRA was held at Loughborough University in November 1991.

In November 2007 the SRA was incorporated as a Private Company Limited by Guarantee.

The SRA is run by a committee known as the Exec, comprising of six members, increased from five in 2008, with the addition of Treasurer. These individuals are elected by the membership at the AGM and must have taken part in student radio over the past year. Exec Members are only eligible to hold office for a maximum of three years, consecutive or split.

Below the Exec there are the Regional Representatives, who report to the Member Stations in their Region and to the Exec.
