Sayid Sa'adat Khan Bahadur, Shaukat Jang (Circa 1680-19 March 1739), better known as Saadat Khan or Burhan-ul-mulk, was the founder of theAwadh dynasty.Saadat Khan hailed from a noble Saiyid family from
Nishapur inKhurasan . Born Mir Muhammad Amin, he entered the Mughal court as a camp superintendent but went on to obtain a mansab underFurrukhsiyar . He played an important role in the ascension ofMuhammad Shah to the throne and overthrow of theSaiyid Brothers . He earned the title of Saadat Khan Bahadur in 1720 and was awarded the Governorship of Awadh as reward in 1722.At the time, Lucknow was under the influence of a Muslim community, the Shaikhzadas. Saadat Khan settled the disturbed fortunes of his territory by military force, and established his court at
Faizabad . He was summoned toDelhi byNadir Shah , and died there in 1739.References
