Empty Homes Agency

Empty Homes Agency

The Empty Homes Agency is an independent campaigning charity founded in 1993. Its purpose is to highlight the waste of empty property in England. It works with others to devise and promote solutions to bring empty and wasted property back into use. Its recent successes include successfully lobbying the government to introduce Empty Dwelling Management Orders - legislation to enable local authorities to take over the management control of dwellings that have been empty for six months or more. It has also persuaded government to change the rules on VAT, and Council tax to make it more cost effective to bring empty homes back into use.

The Empty Homes Agency is a charitable Industrial and Provident Society registered in England, No 27697R, so is not registered with the Charity Commission. In 2003 30% of its funds came from the UK Government through the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
