Early life
Bedi was born to Dr. Prem Kumar Bedi and Shakuntala on January 18, 1975 in a village named Chabbewal in the district Hoshiarpur, Punjab. Her parents migrated to Norway when she was 10 months old where they run a garment store. She has a brother Bobby Bedi. She went to school in Norway. Monica returned to India at the age of 18 and entered Bollywood.
Abu Salem Connection
Monica Bedi was married to Abu Salem and lived with him as his wife briefly. They first met in Dubai and followed by many several meetings they were living together and finally were arrested in Lisbon,Portugal and was extradiated to India along with Monica Bedi in Nov 2005. Salem and second wife Monica Bedi intercepted in Portugal for carrying forged documents. Along with Bedi sentenced to five years' jail term. The forged passport on which Bedi was traveling was issued in the name of Samiya Mallick Kamal by the passport office in Hyderabad. The apex court, while upholding her conviction, further reduced her sentence to the imprisonment she had already undergone.
She has served two years and six months in jail in the case.
She faced another passport forgery case in Bhopal where she was accused of having allegedly procured a passport in the name of Fauzia Usman. In this case, she was acquitted by the trial court July 17, 2007.
Career
Bedi started her career with Suraksha in 1995.
Bigg Boss (Season 2)
On 17 August 2008 (telecast date), Bedi was ushered into the Bigg Boss (Season 2) as one of the 14 contestants in the second season of the Indian version of Big Brother. She was evicted from the house on 5 September (telecast date).[1]
Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (season 3)
Monica paired with Javed Sanadi for the show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. She was eliminated in round 6 although her improvement was highly appreciated by the judges. She regarded the show as a new beginning of her life and career.
Desi Girl
Monica was a contestant on NDTV Imagine's reality show Desi Girl. She was the fourth to get eliminated as the villagers objected to her stay.
